The professional meterologist application process
1. Create an account and complete your application
Select the P.Met title and specialization(s) that you are applying for, and then fill out information about yourself that includes your employment and education history. Choose three (3) references who are familiar with your work experience and submit their contact information online. After you have entered this information, you will be required to pay the application fee and agree to the EP Code of Ethics.
2. Perform a self-assessment
Complete a self-assessment where you rank your competency within each specialization that you have chosen. Your level of competence is compared against National Occupational Standards, and must meet or exceed these standards to qualify.
3. Ethics examination
When the Registrar confirms your eligibility, you will be required to schedule and write an online examination within three (3) months of being approved. The P.Met exam is entirely based upon the EP Code of Ethics; the Exam Guide will outline the required knowledge and resources for the examination.
4. Validate your work experience with references
If you qualify, we will contact your references and ask them to perform a confidential evaluation of your competencies.
5. The Board reviews your application
Our EP Registrar will review your application to ensure that all components are complete, verified, and meet or exceed the National Occupational Standards. The Canadian Environmental Certification Approvals Board (CECAB) reviews P.Met candidates on a monthly basis for final approval.
6. Maintain your designation
Once your application has been approved by the Board, you must pay your annual membership fee. To maintain your designation, each year you must:
-
Pay your membership fee
-
Ensure your contact and employment information is up-to-date, and
-
Upload or enter your professional development activities.
Fees
You are required to pay a one-time application fee and membership fees annually.
Please note that application fees are non-refundable even in the event of an unsuccessful application.
