Publishing Manager

Company Overview
Rescan’s Production department works in collaboration with our professional staff to create well-organized, well-illustrated final documents. Our team of experienced graphic designers, desktop publishers, information services specialists, and editors deliver high-quality electronic and print media to our clients’ specifications, bringing together documents of all sizes—from one or many contributors—to form consistent, harmonious end products. Past projects have included:
• Publishing single and multi-volume environmental studies in digital or paper formats that comply with regulatory requirements for content and organization
• Developing illustrations, schematics, maps, charts and graphs to augment or replace lengthy text
• Preparing promotional and display materials, such as booths, posters, brochures, and presentations, for community engagement, project marketing, or training
• Producing corporate communications such as newsletters and press releases on behalf of clients
• Creating project-specific style guides for use by contributing authors
• Substantive, stylistic, and copy editing, as well as proofreading and rewriting
• Writing and publishing of plain language summaries of technical reports
• Designing web solutions for collaboration, distribution, research, recordkeeping, and archival purposes
Job Description:
• Leads a team of editors, graphic designers, and desktop publishers providing timely, high-quality services to internal and external clients
• Ensures the excellence of end-product documents through rigorous quality assurance / quality control procedures
• Communicates with project and discipline managers to ensure team resources are aligned with expected and actual workloads
• Offers assistance and guidance to internal clients with respect to Rescan’s style conventions and branding standards
• Improves processes and procedures to increase the Production team’s efficiency and enhance the overall quality and readability of Rescan documents
• Participates in project meetings, providing assistance with cost estimates relating to report production, and guiding documentation through development and review stages to final publication
• Acts as lead editor for all large-scale/volume reports
• Provides standard software training and support for internal Rescan staff
• Ensures Production team members are well-utilized, overseeing their performance and guiding their career development
• Actively manages workplace safety and takes responsibility for team members health and well-being
Qualifications:
• Experience supervising a similar group producing electronic and print media to standard specifications
• Ability to work and lead calmly in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment
• Demonstrably excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Exceptional organization and time-management skills combined with attention to detail
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite software packages
• Post-secondary training in English, Communications, Publishing, or relevant discipline an asset
• Familiarity with mining and environmental terminology and with consulting an asset
