Company Overview
The Nunavut Impact Review Board (NIRB) is an Institution of Public Government with responsibilities for the environmental assessment of projects in Nunavut as described in Article 12 of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement (NLCA).
Job Description:
Assistant Technical Advisors are responsible for conducting screening of project proposals, supporting Technical Advisors in the environmental assessment of major projects including Review and Monitoring activities. The Assistant Technical Advisors are also required to review applicaitons, supporting documentation, technical reports and monitoring results, and to provide assistanct to NIRB Board and staff for environmental impact reviews.
The Assistant Technical Advisors are also responsible to provide support to the Environmental Administrators, to liaise and communicate with stakeholders including potentially affected communities and interested parties, and to coordinate with government and Inuit organizations.
The Assistant Technical Advisors are also responsible to assist with facilitating community meetings, technical workshops, and fomral hearings.
Other duties inclue providing technical advice to the Board, maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workhops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and, any other duties as may be required.
Qualifications:
The incumbant(s) should possess knowledge in environmental assessment procedures and processes, should be knowledgeable in matters related to environmental legislation and regulations, and ideally, also possesses some knowledge of typical environmental impacts including socio-economic impacts and mitigating techniques for a variety of major project developments including mining and exploration.
The candidate(s) should also be knowledgeable in the fields of research, consultation, and project management techniques in order to coordinate and carry out the environmental screenings of project proposals. The successful applicant(s) will have an excellent working knowledge of computer software including word processing, database, environmental analysis programs, and electronic mail and communications programs. A high level of verbal and written communication skills (English) is required for this position, while fluency in Inuktitut and/or Inuinnaqtun would be considered a strong asset.
Additional Information:
Position is a 2 year fixed term contract only.
The position and any offer of employment is contingent on the NIRB securing required funding.
Salary for this positions is commensurate with experience. The Board offers an attractive remuneration package that includes Northern Living Allowance, Vacation Travel Assistance and other benefits.
Priority consideration will be given to qualified beneficiaries of the NLCA and, to a lesser degree, Nunavut residents.
