Job Description:
Due to growth and internal opportunities in all areas of our operations SNC Lavalin Environment has an immediate opening for an experienced, career oriented Air Quality Scientist to join our Air and Climate Assessment team.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Senior Air Quality Scientist reports to the air lead in British Columbia. As a member of the growing Western Canadian air team, the candidate will be responsible for conducting air assessments, potentially including ambient monitoring activities, emission inventory development, carbon reduction planning and dispersion and/or meteorological modeling, with additional potential for international work. The responsibilities of the position(s) will also include developing proposals, business development, and mentoring and training staff to assist in our growth. Experience with air quality issues in the Lower Fraser Valley of British Columbia would be considered beneficial, as would experience participating in panel reviews or hearings. This is an excellent opportunity for an entrepreneurially minded environmental scientist to join a growing business group with excellent resources and opportunities in Western Canada and beyond.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Depending on the educational background and experience of the candidate, responsibilities may include:
Development of ambient monitoring programs (meteorological and air quality)
Emissions assessment (e.g., emissions inventories of common air contaminants and GHGs)
Regulatory meteorological and dispersion modeling;
Database emissions model development (e.g., activity based models for transportation)
'State of environment' investigations and reporting
Business development activities and liaising with clients
Assisting the air lead in strategic planning and further growth of the air services line of business
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS
B.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry, Environmental Science or Engineering and several years of experience in an emissions or air quality related field. A higher level degree in air emissions or atmospheric modelling (or both) would be favoured (Masters, PhD).
Significant project management experience
Knowledge of provincial and federal air quality objectives and standards
Demonstrated capabilities for research and report writing, preferably with technical expertise in air quality issues.
Ability to collaborate with professional staff in the Burnaby office and staff in other SLE offices across the country (and internationally)
Strong organizational and time management skills
Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills are required as well as an aptitude for client liaison and marketing.
