Transportation Infrastructure is focused on designing and building Calgary's transportation system including LRT lines, roads, pathways and pedestrian corridors to form a comprehensive and sustainable transportation system. We have an exciting and challenging construction program to expand and upgrade our LRT and overall transportation network. Your work will play a significant role in building this great city.
Responsibilities
The Environmental Consultant leads and facilitates all aspects of the Transportation Infrastructure environmental management system (EMS) and provides technical guidance on projects and programs within Transportation Infrastructure. Reporting to the Director, this position will be responsible for contributing to the development of business strategy and translating business goals into effective plans. Responsibilities include:
• Providing technical guidance to infrastructure project managers on tenders, plans and construction.
• Developing and administering the Environmental Management System (EMS) including documentation and performance reporting as well as the development and implementation of business process support tools.
• Developing and refining EMS policies and programs in conjunction with other members of the management team.
• Co-ordinating, executing and following through on internal and external audits.
• Managing programs and projects including administration of contracts and directing work of staff when related to environmental protection and mitigation.
• Developing and implementing business process support tools.
Qualifications
The successful applicant must possess:
• A degree in environmental management, environmental sciences, applied sciences, engineering or related field OR;
• A professional designation such as a professional engineer (P.Eng), professional agrologist (P. Ag.), professional biologist (P. Biol.) or environmental professional (EP)
with a minimum of four years of in-depth experience in environmental management systems, environmental program management or major project environmental risk and quality management. Applicants also require a valid Class 5 Alberta driver's licence (or provincial equivalent) and a basic proficiency level in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Experience with environmental regulatory requirements, project management, project tendering, environmental construction operations plans, erosion and sediment control, environmental emergency plans, site contamination assessment, site remediation and previous audit experience is an asset.
