SUMMARY:GHG Certification: EP®(GHG) Open House Q&A
DESCRIPTION:Interest in GHG accounting certification and professional development keeps growing as more professionals look to build credible careers in climate action. Following the launch of the EP®(GHG) certification\, GHGMI and ECO Foundation are continuing the conversation with an Open House Q&A series for prospective applicants who want a clearer picture of eligibility\, requirements\, and the application process. \nThis session is designed for people who are already somewhat familiar with the designation requirements\, whether from reviewing them on their own or attending one of our introductory information sessions. It’s a chance to go deeper\, hear from professionals who have been through the credentialing process\, and get your specific questions answered. \nDuring the session\, you’ll: \n\nAsk questions about the EP®(GHG) and EPt(GHG) pathways\nGain clarity on eligibility requirements\, competencies\, and supporting documentation\nLearn more about the application and review process – Hear firsthand from certified professionals about their experience\nUnderstand common application challenges and how to avoid them\nExplore how certification can support your growth in GHG accounting and climate-related careers\n\nSpeakers: \nOur speakers hold the EP®(GHG) or EPt(GHG) designation and are at different stages of their careers\, from newer-to-the-field to senior professionals. Shannon Turnbull\, EP®(GHG); Joby Moffat\, EP®(GHG); and Most Shirina Begun\, EPt(GHG)\, will share their career backgrounds\, what navigating the credentialing process was like for them at their career stage\, and the advice that helped them most along the way. \nShirina Begun \n \nJoby Moffat \nJoby Moffat\, B.Env.S\, EP(GHG)\, is an environmental management specialist focused on GHG emissions\, clean fuel regulations\, and carbon markets. He leads credit creation and verification under Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR) and California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (CARB LCFS)\, with work across EV charging\, compressed natural gas (CNG)\, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF)\, and biodiesel pathways. He also supports compliance reporting under OBPS and the BC Carbon Registry. His experience spans carbon offset projects\, AFOLU\, waste management\, clean energy\, and international Verra initiatives. As a Product Manager\, he develops emissions software focused on categorization\, audit readiness\, and QA/QC automation. Joby is an ISO 14065 and ISO 14064-3 GHG verifier\, an LCA practitioner skilled in GREET and OpenLCA\, and a certified Environmental Professional in Greenhouse Gases (EP(GHG)) with ECO Canada. \n \nShannon Turnbull \nShannon Turnbull is a sustainability professional with over 25 years of experience specializing in greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting and management. As Senior Sustainability and Climate Consultant at Co-operators\, she leads the organization’s GHG inventory\, overseeing data collection\, emissions calculations\, forecasting\, and quality assurance. SUMMARY:Making Effective Research Presentations
DESCRIPTION:Join us December 1st and 3rd for an interactive\, hands-on workshop tailored for researchers in the natural sciences and\, guides participants through principles of scientific storytelling and visual communication. We will tackle concepts such as how to analyze your audience and tailor your communication accordingly\, how to develop a narrative arc around your research\, how to design slides effectively to get your message across\, and how to reimagine your scientific figures in the context of presenting. \nParticipants are encouraged to bring an existing or planned presentation deck with them so that they can make improvements to their decks directly through the workshop exercises. By the end of the workshop\, participants will have new strategies for effectively communicating their work and an improved slide deck! Participants will also leave with a toolkit of resources to support their continued work on their current and future presentations. \n\n\nThis workshop is particularly valuable for:\n\nGraduate students\, postdoctoral researchers\, and early-career scientists looking to strengthen their presentation skills.\nResearchers preparing for conferences\, seminars\, thesis defenses\, or funding presentations.\nScientists who want to improve how they explain complex research to diverse audiences.\nAnyone seeking practical strategies to create engaging presentation narratives and visually effective slides.\nResearchers with an existing or upcoming presentation who would benefit from hands-on feedback and opportunities to refine their slide deck during the workshop.\n\n\n  \nAgenda:\nDec 1: Storytelling \nDec 3: Slide Design \n  \nSpeaker:\n \nSarah Nason \nSarah Nason is a professional science communicator with over six years of experience helping experts\, knowledge keepers\, and science-based organizations communicate effectively so their work can have impact. She holds an MSc in Biology specializing in wildlife conservation and population genetics. Most recently\, Sarah held a 3.5-year role as a Knowledge Exchange and Outreach Officer for the Canadian Forest Service\, where she coordinated a diverse range of research mobilization activities for the Northern Forestry Centre. As the principal of Wapiti Studios\, she blends her scientific background with her writing\, editing\, graphic design\, and illustration skills to translate technical information beautifully and with clarity. She has worked with academic institutions\, Indigenous communities\, and non-profits across Canada and internationally to tell science-based stories that resonate and help organizations meet their knowledge mobilization goals.
