SUMMARY:Nature-based Coastal Restoration and Blue Carbon
DESCRIPTION:Coastal ecosystems such as salt marshes\, seagrass meadows\, and other marine habitats play a critical role in protecting shorelines\, supporting biodiversity\, and storing carbon. As climate change\, habitat degradation\, and increasing coastal pressures threaten these ecosystems\, communities are seeking practical\, nature-based solutions that strengthen resilience while delivering environmental\, social\, and economic benefits. \n  \nThis two-day micro-credential equips participants with the knowledge and tools needed to design\, evaluate\, and advance coastal restoration and blue carbon initiatives. Through expert-led instruction\, participants will explore Canadian restoration practices\, blue carbon accounting and monitoring approaches\, carbon markets\, project finance\, and community-led implementation models. Porté par ECO Canada\, le projet IGNITE vise à soutenir le développement des compétences\, à renforcer les capacités organisationnelles et à favoriser l’adoption de pratiques et de technologies contribuant à une économie canadienne à faible émission de carbone. Dans ce cadre\, Hakim joue un rôle clé dans la coordination des activités de formation et de mobilisation des parties prenantes\, et a notamment conduit la formation sur la gestion des GES auprès des entreprises partenaires du projet. He has worked hands-on with organizations across multiple sectors\, helping them build the internal capacity to meet both Canadian and international disclosure requirements and align with the frameworks that anchor credible climate reporting\, including the GHG Protocol\, ISO 14064\, and IPCC guidance\, alongside domestic regulatory and reporting obligations. \nHakim holds a Bachelor’s degree in Earth and Environmental Sciences and a Master’s degree in Geosciences from the University of Lorraine (France)\, a scientific grounding that shapes his rigorous\, evidence-based approach to emissions management and climate training. \nIn this MRV Training Program\, Hakim will unpack the international and Canadian standards that anchor credible GHG reporting\, examining their application across sectors and their implications for compliance under current and emerging regulatory regimes. He will walk participants through the methodologies\, tools\, and best practices required to operationalize MRV\, from data collection and quality assurance through to verification readiness\, grounding the discussion in a real-world case study that brings these concepts to life. Drawing on lessons from his work with organizations across the country\, Hakim will share practical\, realistic approaches to strengthening data integrity and traceability\, and will show how sound MRV practice translates directly into lower compliance risk and stronger climate governance. \n
