SUMMARY:Strategic Coastal Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Planning
DESCRIPTION:Coastal communities across Canada are increasingly facing challenges associated with sea level rise\, coastal erosion\, flooding\, and extreme weather events. Building resilience requires more than understanding risks. It requires the ability to assess vulnerabilities\, engage stakeholders\, and develop adaptation strategies that support long term sustainability. \nThis two day micro credential provides participants with the knowledge needed to assess coastal climate risks and translate findings into actionable adaptation and management plans. Through expert-led instruction\, participants will learn structured approaches to vulnerability assessment\, spatial risk analysis\, adaptation planning\, and coastal governance. \nDates: July 21 & 22 10-6pm EDT \n\nTwo days of live online instruction delivered by an industry expert\nA digital course textbook and learning resources\nA Certificate of Completion\n\nCourse Modules\n\nModule 1: Coastal Systems\, Climate Risks & Vulnerability Concepts\nModule 2: Vulnerability Assessment Frameworks & Indicators\nModule 3: Spatial Analysis\, Mapping & Risk Visualization\nModule 4: Adaptation Strategy Development & Prioritization\nModule 5: Coastal Management Planning\, Governance & Implementation\n\nWho Should Attend?\nThis training is designed for Indigenous communities\, environmental and ocean professionals\, planners\, community leaders\, researchers\, students\, consultants\, government representatives\, and others involved in coastal management\, climate adaptation\, or resilience planning. \nIndigenous participants are especially encouraged to register. \nThis training is offered free of charge through ECO Canada’s Ocean Pathways initiative. Participants who are interested in bringing this training to their community or organization in the future are encouraged to connect with the ECO Canada team following the course to discuss future delivery opportunities.

SUMMARY:Geological CO2 Storage and Monitoring
DESCRIPTION:This webinar addresses the fundamentals of Carbon Capture\, Utilization and Storage (CCUS)\, with particular emphasis on dedicated geological CO2 storage (GCS) and the role that geophysical and geochemical monitoring plays in the verification of secure\, long-term storage of CO2 in the subsurface. In this process\, CO2 is injected into deep saline formations\, or depleted oil and gas reservoirs that can securely store the CO2 permanently. Canada is very well positioned for CO2 storage at a large scale due to its geology and technical expertise. \nThis informative session will be illustrated with examples from the Carbon Management Canada (CMC) Newell County Field Research Station (FRS) and other pilot and commercial projects. The FRS was developed in the South-East of Alberta by CMC and the University of Calgary to develop and assess monitoring technologies for CO2 leakage detection. \n  \nSpeaker: \n \nBrendan Kolkman-Quinn\, P.Geo. \nBrendan Kolkman-Quinn\, P.Geo.\, is the Subsurface Research Manager at Carbon Management Canada (CMC). He graduated in 2022 with an M.Sc. in Geophysics from the University of Calgary and began working on time-lapse seismic monitoring at Carbon Management Canada in 2022. His research focus is monitoring CO2 conformance and containment with active seismic reflection data including vertical seismic profiles\, distributed fibre-optic sensing\, and sparse automated permanent seismic sources and receivers.

SUMMARY:Nature-based Coastal Restoration and Blue Carbon
DESCRIPTION:Coastal ecosystems such as salt marshes\, seagrass meadows\, and other marine habitats play a critical role in protecting shorelines\, supporting biodiversity\, and storing carbon. As climate change\, habitat degradation\, and increasing coastal pressures threaten these ecosystems\, communities are seeking practical\, nature-based solutions that strengthen resilience while delivering environmental\, social\, and economic benefits. \n  \nThis two-day micro-credential equips participants with the knowledge and tools needed to design\, evaluate\, and advance coastal restoration and blue carbon initiatives. Through expert-led instruction\, participants will explore Canadian restoration practices\, blue carbon accounting and monitoring approaches\, carbon markets\, project finance\, and community-led implementation models. The course emphasizes practical decision-making and helps participants build the capacity to develop restoration projects that support climate action\, ecosystem health\, and long-term community sustainability. \n  \nParticipants will receive: \n\nTwo days of live online instruction delivered by an industry expert\nA digital course textbook and learning resources\nA Certificate of Completion\n\n  \nCourse Modules: \n\nModule 1 : Coastal Ecosystems & Climate Resilience\nModule 2 : Canadian Coastal Restoration Science & Practice\nModule 3 : Blue Carbon Accounting & MRV\nModule 4 : Carbon Standards\, Markets & Constraints\nModule 5 :  Project Finance & Community Models\n\n  \nWho Should Attend? \nThis training is designed for Indigenous communities\, environmental and ocean professionals\, planners\, community leaders\, researchers\, students\, consultants\, government representatives\, and others involved in coastal management\, climate adaptation\, or resilience planning. \nIndigenous participants are especially encouraged to register. \nThis training is offered free of charge through ECO Canada’s Ocean Pathways initiative.
