SUMMARY:2025 National Model Codes - A New Era of Building Performance
DESCRIPTION:The 2025 National Model Codes\, including the National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB) and National Building Code (NBC)\, are now released.\nThis edition of the codes represents a significant shift in how Canada approaches building performance. For the first time\, the codes introduce clear\, measurable limits on operational greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. They also add new compliance pathways and updated climatic data that better reflect the realities of a changing climate\, while strengthening energy-efficiency requirements. A new Part 10 introduces best practices for alterations to existing buildings. This all signals a move toward decarbonization\, energy-savings\, resilience\, and thoughtful future-proofing of our building stock. Join us for an overview of the changes and why they matter to communities across the country.\nSpeaker: \nHeather Elliot \nHeather is a leader in the building science sphere\, focused on the investigation and repair of existing building envelope systems\, and applying 15+ years of consulting experience and knowledge to new building design\, retrofit\, and commissioning. Heather has experience utilizing building science principles to troubleshoot detailing conditions in various types of construction\, from low-rise residential to high-rise towers\, commercial and institutional facilities. She has worked on a variety of projects across Alberta\, as well as in neighboring provinces and the United States. She believes in finding practical solutions to ensure the lifespan of new infrastructure as well as making use of the building envelope and integration with other building systems to drive performance\, sustainability\, and passive efficiency for resiliency.

SUMMARY:Building Together: Connecting Codes & Community Needs
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an engaging in-person networking event focused on advancing the implementation of the National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB) and the National Building Code (NBC) in indigenous communities. ECO Canada will share developed resources\, lessons learned\, and community feedback gathered through ongoing work supporting the adoption of energy codes\nin indigenous communities. This event is designed to foster meaningful conversations\, strengthen connections\, and highlight how building codes can support healthier homes and long-term community resilience. \nCome connect with others\, exchange ideas\, and be part of the conversation shaping sustainable building practices in indigenous contexts. \nAgenda:\n\n2 – 2:30pm Networking\n2:30 – 3:30pm Exploring resources\, sharing impacts and feedback\n3:30 – 4pm Networking\n\nSpeaker: \n \nPooja Sharma \nPooja Sharma is a Manager of Professional Services Projects at ECO Canada with extensive experience leading funded initiatives that foster collaboration across industry\, academia\, Indigenous communities\, and other key stakeholders. She currently manages project focused on adoption of and compliance with National Energy Codes of Canada for buildings\, with a strong emphasis on capacity building through trainings and resources. Pooja holds a Masters degree in Economics from University of Ottawa\, Bachelors degree in Computer Science from Rochester Institute of Technology and a Diploma in Business Administration from McMaster University. \n

SUMMARY:Navigating Energy Codes: Communities Sharing Their Experiences
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an insightful conversation where Indigenous Communities share their firsthand experiences learning about Energy Codes and its benefits.\nHear directly from those who have been on the ground\, navigating the complexities of energy code requirements while balancing tough decisions around code implementation and construction hurdles. This session offers a candid look at the realities of building up-to-code structures in Indigenous Communities – from the challenges to the triumphs of better building performance and longevity. Whether you’re in the middle of a construction project or just starting out\, and if you’ve faced obstacles on the path to sustainable construction in Indigenous Communities\, this webinar is for you \nWho is this for? \n\nIndigenous housing team members responsible for planning\, approving\, or overseeing construction projects\nConstruction workers and contractors working in or with Indigenous Communities\nEnergy champions and sustainability leads within First Nations\, Métis\, and Inuit organizations\nFederal\, provincial\, and municipal staff working on Indigenous housing or energy efficiency programs\nAnyone navigating the realities of energy code implementation in an Indigenous community context\n\nWhy attend?\n \n\nHear community-sourced perspectives on what worked\, what didn’t\, and what they wish they had known earlier\nGain practical insight from peers who faced the same barriers you may be navigating right now\nUnderstand how energy code compliance connects to long-term outcomes: reduced energy costs\, improved indoor comfort\, and more durable buildings\nBuild connections with other Indigenous housing and construction professionals facing similar challenges\nAsk your questions directly to community members in a live Q&A
