EPt Designation Eligibility Requirements
EPt is more than a credential; it’s an opportunity to build your professional network, gain mentorship from established EPs, and hone the skills required to achieve your goals.
We award the EPt designation to environmental professionals who meet the following requirements:
- Education: Have a recognized college diploma or university degree, or equivalent international credentials.
- Commitment: to honing your expertise: Complete your National Occupational Standards (NOS) for environmental employment assessment.
- Professional Ethics: Adhere to the Code of Ethics and sign the EPt Ethics Agreement to become certified.
- Professional Development: Complete and submit annual professional development requirements outlined in your EPt Professional development framework.

Does your experience fit into specializations?
The environmental sector is constantly evolving, and the EPt Certification path is keeping pace. Now, with 16 specializations to choose from, you can showcase your expertise in even more fields. Specializations provide you with an extra credential to promote your areas of expertise. You will need to select at least one and up to two of 16 specializations to include as part of your application.
Over 300 competency statements have been classified into one or more of the environmental sub-sectors:
- Environmental Protection
- Resource Management
- Environmental Sustainability
- Impact Assessment
- Environmental Management
Outstanding Fees Policy
If payment is not received within 30 days of its due date, a penalty fee of $50.00 will be charged. Your membership would no longer be considered in good standing and will be temporarily removed from the roster until payment is received. This status will be lifted, and the member’s name will be placed back on the roster once payment is received.
If it has been more than 60 days and your membership still has outstanding fees, your designation will lapse. Former members are eligible for reinstatement within 3 years from the date lapsed. Contact EP@eco.ca for reinstatement requirements and process. If your designation is lapsed more than 3 years, you will be required to apply as a new applicant.

Application
To gain your EPt status, your education must be verified, and you must complete your self-assessment.
