Accelerating Decarbonization

Sharing Knowledge and Building Network: A collaborative approach to Accelerating Decarbonization across Canada

This project is designed to empower businesses and communities across Canada to adopt low-carbon technologies and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

Introduction

The Government of Canada’s Implementation Readiness Fund supports activities and investments that increase the readiness to deploy greenhouse gas emissions reduction projects and remove barriers to low-carbon adoption. Through program funding and support, ECO Canada will empower businesses and communities across Canada to adopt low-carbon technologies and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by:

This project commenced on April 1, 2024, and will conclude on March 31, 2027.

Developing a Decarbonization Toolkit

We are developing a user-friendly online toolkit to provide businesses and communities with practical approaches and easy steps any Canadian SME can take to save money and cut emissions. The toolkit will include information on emissions, its data sources and calculations, helpful resources to reducing your GHG emissions, GHG reporting guidelines, best practices, federal and provincial financial resources available to businesses in Canada.

Future Ready SME’s Tour: Competitive Solutions to Cut Risks and Emissions

We have begun hosting a series of events from coast to coast that bring together industry representatives, environmental experts, and Small Medium Enterprises (SME’s) to discuss practical and easy steps to reduce emissions. We encourage a collaborative dialogue so our panelists and attendees, which include organizations, communities, and business associations, can share best practices, case studies, and practical steps to net zero implementation.

We launched the “Forum for Sustainable SMEs”, a platform for businesses committed to or exploring emissions reduction initiatives. Members can:

Land Acknowledgment

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity, and truth, we acknowledge that we live, work, and gather on the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, including the Blackfoot Confederacy—comprising the Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani Nations—as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina Nations.

This land, known as Moh’kinsstis in the Blackfoot language and encompassing what is now Districts 5 and 6, is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, within the historical Northwest Métis homeland.

We recognize and honour the deep connection these Nations have to the land, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share in its stewardship.

As we continue our work, we commit to learning from Indigenous knowledge systems, uplifting Indigenous voices, and fostering relationships rooted in equity, understanding, and reconciliation.
