Become an Accreditation Program Site Reviewer
Ensure Our Accredited Environmental Programs Reflect Continual Quality Enhancement
Site Reviewers participate in prospective site visits, conduct thorough assessments using our standards, and recommend post-secondary environmental programs for national accreditation to the CEAC.
For this volunteer position, candidates are contacted based on their area of specialization. Our ideal volunteer candidates are from two distinct categories:
Industry Experts:
- Possess expertise that relates directly to the environmental field.
- Ability to analyze a program to ensure that graduates will adequately be prepared to become successful environmental professionals in and outside the institutional environment.
- Current practicing environmental professional, including relevant experience in the last 10 years.
- Experience with Management System Standards and familiarity with auditing guidelines.
Academic Experts:
- Possess a proficient understanding of post-secondary institution program requirements, as well as the capacity to effectively evaluate an institution’s ability to deliver an environmental program.
- Hold a position within an environmental program at a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution, as: Dean, Director, Department Head, and/or Faculty member.

Site Reviewer Requirements
- Reflect both ECO Canada’s and the CEAC’s national perspective of accreditation and its collaborative practice approach.
- Demonstrate interest in improving environmental education.
- Hold formal education with recognized distinction in the area of study.
- Possess a degree appropriate in or related to the environmental field.
- Experience with accreditation, auditing, and/or quality improvement processes.
- 10 years in the environmental field, preferably in a senior leadership role.
Site Reviewer Program Benefits
Successful candidates and their representative organizations, who complete our preparatory training, program assessment, and recommendation report phases become eligible to accredit environmental programs. For their investment and role, they will receive:
- Recognition on ECO Canada’s website and any relevant publications.
- Professional development credits, applicable towards their annual maintenance requirements for their EP designation or respective association.
- Opportunity to help develop an accreditation system that benefits environmental education programs, students, and the environmental sector.
- Networking connections to exchange ideas, experiences, and information with peers who share expertise and interest in human resource issues impacting the environmental sector.
- Experience and information about accreditation to benefit and enhance his/her own program.
