Shopping Local and Sustainable

Shopping Local and Sustainable!

In today’s rapidly changing world, the need for environmental stewardship has never been more critical. As individuals, we all have the power to make a positive impact and contribute to a sustainable future. By making conscious choices and adopting eco-friendly practices in our daily lives, we can collectively work towards a healthier planet.

How can I help?

An easy way to make a difference in the environment is by supporting sustainable products and businesses. As consumers, we have the power to influence the market. Supporting local companies and brands that prioritize sustainability and environmental responsibility goes a long way. Look for eco-friendly certifications, such as organic, fair trade, or Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) labels, when making purchases. Choose products with minimal packaging or opt for bulk items to reduce waste. Consider buying second-hand or repurposed goods, contributing to the circular economy.

With ECO Canada‘s head office in Calgary, we love to support small, green local businesses in the city. Check out some of our favourites!

Chop Value

Have leftover chopsticks? Chop Value will take them! The organization repurposes chopsticks into furniture. Every chopstick is perfect, slender, and defect-free, making them ideal for developing an innovative engineered material. When designing products, their mindset has been circularity and longevity. This allows the opportunity to minimize the environmental impact while creating sustainable solutions engineered to last.

The Grinning Goat

The Grinning Goat is a 100% vegan boutique that is a permanent home for abandoned or abused farm animals located outside of Calgary, and the recipient of 1% of all Grinning Goat’s sales. Grinning Goat opened in 2017 to provide Calgarians with an ethical, Vegan shopping destination, and carries everything from men and women’s footwear to accessories, clothing to homeware goods and more.

Humainologie

All proceeds from Humainologie go directly to the not-for-profit work that they do. All products are from local artists, ethically sourced, and consciously designed. Their downtown location, just off 17th Ave!

KB & CO

KB & Co offers an environmentally-friendly way to do fast casual dining with their 100% plant-based menu featuring mindfully sourced and nutrient-rich ingredients, as well as eco-friendly packaging.

Spud

Offering services in BC and Alberta, Spud is an online grocery service delivering sustainable and local products to your doorstep. Spud is committed to being the most sustainable grocer. By choosing Spud, you’re helping reduce waste and operate delivery in a closed-loop system. The reusable bin you receive means less packaging and more local, sustainable freshness.

Feeling inspired?

Being better for the environment requires a collective effort from individuals, communities, and governments worldwide. By shopping small and local, your impact can go a long way! Remember, every small action counts, and together we can build a more sustainable future for generations to come. Let’s embrace the power of change and become responsible stewards of our planet!
