Impact Assessment Management Professional Competency

Discover why IA management professionals play a key role in the environmental sector

Impact assessments are growing in scope and complexity

In our 2018 sector profile, we estimated that impact assessments account for $260 million in salaries, wages, commissions and benefits for approximately 4,000 full-time environmental consultants.

IA management professionals play an increasingly important role as awareness of human impact on the environment expands globally. The Government of Canada has made significant progress to catch up with industry-leading practices. New impact assessment regulations now recognize Traditional Knowledge and account for social factors in conjunction with traditional biophysical impacts.

This profile highlights the integrative approach of these professionals when conducting an impact assessment and the technical expertise required to identify potential environmental, economic, and social consequences of proposed development projects.
