Dispelling Myths and Misconceptions About Hiring Persons With Disabilities

Join us for an engaging and informative webinar designed specifically for environmental sector employers. In this session, we’ll explore the benefits of hiring people with disabilities and the types of support available to employers who want to foster an accessible and inclusive workplace.

Speaker: Nikki Langdon
Prairie Regional Manager – Neil Squire Society

Nikki is the Prairie Regional Manager for the Neil Squire Society and has worked with people with disabilities for over 30 years in career development. Nikki also has a diagnosed mental illness that she has lived with and battled for well over 50 years and has written and published a book on the same. She speaks to this stigmatized illness often at conferences in an effort to bring this illness out of the dark. Nikki holds a Bachelor’s degree with great distinction in Adapted Physical Activity Studies (Kinesiology) and has been awarded the YWCA Woman of Distinction award in Leadership and Management. She holds the Registered Rehabilitation Professional Certification from the Vocational Rehabilitation Society of Canada and the Certified Vocational Professional and Return to Work Disability Manager designations from the College of Vocational Professionals.

I actively facilitate the exchange of skills, knowledge, and resources among our leadership teams, ensuring a unified approach to achieving MentorAbility Canada’s goals. My commitment to our mission drives me to create opportunities for growth, build community, and advocate for the transformative power of mentorship in shaping a more inclusive society.

Land Acknowledgment

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity, and truth, we acknowledge that we live, work, and gather on the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, including the Blackfoot Confederacy—comprising the Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani Nations—as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina Nations.

This land, known as Moh’kinsstis in the Blackfoot language and encompassing what is now Districts 5 and 6, is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, within the historical Northwest Métis homeland.

We recognize and honour the deep connection these Nations have to the land, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share in its stewardship.

As we continue our work, we commit to learning from Indigenous knowledge systems, uplifting Indigenous voices, and fostering relationships rooted in equity, understanding, and reconciliation.
