IGNITE

Innovating GHG-Reduction, Nurturing Institutions, and Training Enterprises for a Low Carbon Economy

The IGNITE project aims to facilitate Low-Carbon Technology Adoption and Workforce Development for GHG Emissions Reduction. It focuses on overcoming barriers to adoption, addressing the talent gap, and expanding networks for effective initiatives.

How IGNITE aligns with Canada’s commitment to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050?

IGNITE aligns with Canada’s Net Zero 2050 by working with organizations to reduce their GHG emissions through implementing energy efficiency measures, renewable energy integration and adopting low-carbon technologies.

Greenhouse Gases (GHG)
Emission reduction

Global warming caused by the increase in GHG concentration can lead to more frequent and severe weather events, rising sea levels, and health problems. Therefore, reducing GHG emissions is crucial to mitigate the negative impacts of global warming. It is essential to take steps such as transitioning to renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency, and adopting sustainable practices to reduce GHG emissions and mitigate the effects of climate change.

Low Carbon
Technologies

Low-carbon technologies such as solar, wind, and biomass have fewer emissions compared to conventional technologies. Carbon capture, utilization & storage (CCUS) are the upcoming technologies to mitigate climate change. These technologies play a vital role in the transition to a low-carbon economy.

“Organizations like ECO Canada are taking innovative approaches to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to building a low-carbon economy. Through the Implementation Readiness Fund stream of the Low Carbon Economy Fund, the Government of Canada is investing in projects that remove barriers to low-carbon technology adoption and increase the readiness to deploy GHG emissions reduction projects.”

– The Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Environment and Climate Change

Project Outcomes

The outcomes include workforce and institutional capacity building, removing adoption barriers, and accelerating climate mitigation. The project targets human and institutional resource development for technology deployment, implementing carbon reduction projects across Canada with small and medium businesses and institutional partners.

Collaboration and Engagement with Organizations

ECO Canada will work with organizations across Canada to engage and support them through the following phases to achieve their Net Zero goals:

Opportunities for Environmental Professionals (EP®s)

ECO Canada’s IGNITE program’s objective is to address the dual challenge of promoting low-carbon technology adoption and closing the talent gap in the green economy. This program offers several opportunities for Environmental Professionals (EPs) Environmental Professional in Training (EPts) to get involved such as:

  • Serve on the advisory committee, providing valuable industry expertise.
  • Share knowledge and experience with the audience by contributing as guest speakers for webinars and in-person events focused on low-carbon technologies and GHG accounting.
  • Take part in the “train-the-trainer” model.
  • Serve as consultants and support to deliver the training to pilot partners.
  • EPt students can participate in the training programs, and support in GHG accounting activities.
  • Opportunities to submit proposals for curriculum development process.

EP®s have many ways to contribute to the IGNITE program, such as joining the advisory committee, speaking in webinars, and engaging as panelists at events. EP®s and EPts can act as consultants in the “train-the-trainer” model, while EPt students assist with training delivery. Click below to learn more!
