Top Tips to Prepare for the ECOWorks Career Fair on November 27

Attending a career fair is an exciting opportunity to connect with employers, explore new roles, and make a lasting impression. To help you feel confident and prepared, here are some practical tips to get ready for the ECOWorks Career Fair:

  1. Bring Updated Resumes or Business Cards

Carry several copies of your resume that are current and clearly highlight your skills and experience. If you’re new to the workforce, include volunteer work, school projects, or extracurricular activities that demonstrate transferable skills.

Pro Tip: Keep your resumes in a folder or slim briefcase to avoid creases or damage. Business cards are also a great way to share your contact information quickly.

  1. Research Exhibitors and Prepare Questions

Before the event, check out the list of exhibitors and visit their websites. This helps you:

  • Understand what each organization does.
  • Prioritize which booths you want to visit.
  • Prepare thoughtful questions that show genuine interest.

Asking about specific roles, company culture, or upcoming initiatives can make you stand out as an engaged candidate.

  1. Practice Your Elevator Pitch

Think about the key points you want recruiters to know; your skills, experience, and what you’re looking for. Keep it natural and conversational rather than memorizing a script. A confident introduction sets the tone for a great conversation.

  1. Dress Professionally (and Comfortably!)

Choose an outfit that looks polished but allows you to move comfortably. Pair it with shoes you can walk in easily; career fairs often involve lots of standing and walking. Keep hygiene and professionalism in mind when getting ready in the morning.

Avoid:

  • Clothing with profanity or distracting graphics
  • Oversized backpacks or bulky bags

  1. Plan Ahead for Comfort and Confidence

Little details can make a big difference in how you feel throughout the day. Consider bringing:

  • A water bottle to stay hydrated
  • Lip balm and hand lotion
  • A notepad and pen for jotting down notes
  • Snacks for quick energy
  • Anything else that helps you feel your best

Also, plan your route to the venue ahead of time so you arrive stress-free and on time.

Parking:

Guests attending the ECOWorks Career Fair can park on the Mount Royal University campus in the East Gate Parkade.

  1. Follow Up After the Fair

Land Acknowledgment

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity, and truth, we acknowledge that we live, work, and gather on the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, including the Blackfoot Confederacy—comprising the Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani Nations—as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina Nations.

This land, known as Moh’kinsstis in the Blackfoot language and encompassing what is now Districts 5 and 6, is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, within the historical Northwest Métis homeland.

We recognize and honour the deep connection these Nations have to the land, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share in its stewardship.

As we continue our work, we commit to learning from Indigenous knowledge systems, uplifting Indigenous voices, and fostering relationships rooted in equity, understanding, and reconciliation.
