The Environmental Impact of the Pulp & Paper Industry in Canada
a. In 2022, the pulp and paper sector was responsible for just under 2% of all
emissions from industry globally.
b. Producing one metric ton of paper generates between 608–1,978 kg of CO₂,
depending on the paper grade.
c. The Canadian pulp and paper industry is one of the largest producers
globally, contributing heavily to the country's industrial GHG emissions.
As paper production rises, Canada must focus on enhancing efficiency to reduce emissions in this critical sector.

Et ne manquez pas non plus le Hackathon de notre partenaire Québec International qui aura lieu le mercredi 26 mars : https://bit.ly/3FAp5PJThe Urgent Need for Industrial Decarbonization
a. Heavy industry and transportation account for nearly 30% of global carbon emissions, making decarbonization essential to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.
b. The decarbonization of sectors like steel, cement, and ammonia could cost $11-21 trillion by 2050, requiring a massive scale-up of clean energy, hydrogen, and carbon capture.
c. By 2030, we need to deploy renewable technologies at an unprecedented rate –installing the world's largest solar park every single day!
d. To meet Canada’s 2030 emission reduction targets, industries must adopt cleaner technologies and significantly reduce emissions. This includes transitioning to renewable energy, electrification, and embracing carbon capture and storage (CCS).
The future of the planet depends on the decarbonization of these critical industries.
