National Environmental Workforce Strategy Framework

On March 9, 2021, over 40 environmental sector stakeholders gathered to discuss current workforce issues facing the sector. Twelve broad strategic solutions were identified to address workforce attraction, retention and development issues related to employment in the environmental sector.

On March 9, 2021, over 40 environmental sector stakeholders gathered to discuss current workforce issues facing the sector and develop a strategic framework of potential solutions to national concerns.

Twelve broad strategic solutions were identified to address workforce attraction, retention and development issues related to employment in the environmental sector.

Proposed Solutions

Amongst the proposed solutions were to:

  • Elevate the profile of the environmental sector, professionals and careers through broad-based and targeted awareness campaigns
  • Develop experiential learning opportunities for career and job seekers
  • Increase capacity within the education system to support in-demand and growing occupations and environmental specializations
  • Promote talent management best practices, tools and resources for capacity building among small and medium-sized enterprises

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, we honour and acknowledge Moh’kinsstis and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations.
We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. Finally, we recognize all Nations who live, work and play on this land and honour and celebrate this territory.
