The environmental sector is moving fast, new technologies, shifting regulations, and growing skill shortages are reshaping what organizations need from their workforce. But most of that knowledge stays siloed inside individual organizations.
ECO Xchange changes that.
We bring senior leaders, employers, and local environmental associations into the same room to exchange what they’re seeing on the ground, and walk away with something they can actually use.
ECO Xchange is a roundtable series hosted in partnership with regional environmental industry associations across Canada. Each event brings together 30–40 senior leaders for a focused, highly interactive conversation on a single theme relevant to their region and sector.
Unlike a typical conference, ECO Xchange isn’t about sitting and listening, it’s built around discussion. Participants shape the conversation, and the conversation shapes a tangible outcome: a findings report, a shared strategy, or a clear answer to a pressing industry question.

Every ECO Xchange event centers on one topic relevant to the region and the people in the room, informed by labour market insights, industry signals, and priorities identified by our partner associations
A real conversation
Sessions run 3–4 hours and are built for dialogue, large-group discussion, small-group breakouts, and facilitated exchange. Keynote or panel content, when included, sets the stage; it doesn’t replace the conversation.
A tangible outcome
Every roundtable produces something concrete, a findings report, a summary of key takeaways, or a clear answer to the question the room came together to solve.

15 minutes | Workforce Trends Snapshot | Short presentation from ECO Canada on recent workforce trends research, including labour demand, skills gaps, emerging green economy roles, training needs, and regional signals. |
5 minutes | Discussion Instructions & Table Assignments | Explain discussion format, confidentiality expectations, note-taking approach, and final share-back. |
30 minutes | Small-Group Discussion Round 1: Workforce Pressures & Emerging Trends | Participants discuss current and emerging workforce challenges, technology/regulatory shifts, hiring pressures, and skills needs. |
10 minutes | Quick Break / Informal Networking | Brief pause to maintain energy and allow informal connection. |
30 minutes | Small-Group Discussion Round 2: Solutions, Priorities & Actions | Groups identify practical responses: training priorities, partnership opportunities, policy or funding needs, employer supports, and next steps. |
13 minutes | Large-Group Share-Back & Synthesis | Each group shares 2–3 key insights, 1 priority challenge, and 1 recommended action. Facilitator captures common themes. |
2 minutes | Closing & Next Steps | Explain how findings will be used, point participants to the feedback survey, and thank attendees. |

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity, and truth, we acknowledge that we live, work, and gather on the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, including the Blackfoot Confederacy—comprising the Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani Nations—as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina Nations.
This land, known as Moh’kinsstis in the Blackfoot language and encompassing what is now Districts 5 and 6, is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, within the historical Northwest Métis homeland.
We recognize and honour the deep connection these Nations have to the land, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share in its stewardship.
