What is ECO IMPACT and why should you attend?

ECO Canada’s mission

For 30 years, ECO Canada , Environmental Careers Organization of Canada, has been the steward of the Canadian environmental workforce. From job creation and wage funding to training and labour market research – we champion the end-to-end career of an environmental professional. We aim to promote and drive responsible, sustainable economic growth within the industry.

We work alongside government, policymakers, academia, students, employers, professionals, industry, and international audiences to ensure we support Canada as a global leader in innovative workforce solutions and job creation.

ECO IMPACT is our annual flagship event, located in Calgary, AB. Each year, we invite our members to join us as we celebrate the expertise, leadership, and contributions of our certified Environmental Professionals EPt, EP®, EP® Auditor (EMSLA and CEA) and EP® Employers.

Along with the award presentation, we also host an incredible group of Canadian speakers who keynote, lead panels, and teach in our learning sessions around this year’s theme : “Retrofitting the workforce: Empowering Environmental Innovation”.

We first started hosting ECO IMPACT in 2017. In its first iteration, we hosted the event at lunchtime, and it was purely an awards ceremony. In 2018 we moved the event to an evening Gala dinner and awards ceremony. For our third year, we expanded the scope to include a day of learning before the awards ceremony. The years 2021 and 2022 the event was hosted virtually, and 2023 we had our biggest and best event yet! We have some exciting plans for 2024 so you don’t want to miss it.

Who should attend?

This conference welcomes professionals, researchers, educators, students, government representatives, industry leaders, and environmental advocates who are passionate about shaping the future of Canada’s environmental workforce. It provides a platform for networking, knowledge exchange, and collaboration among diverse stakeholders. You do not have to be a member of the Environmental Professional (EP®) community to attend – everyone is welcome!

Want to attend ECO IMPACT but not sure how to convince your manager?

We are all aware that conferences serve as a valuable means of acquiring fresh skills, strategies, and establishing new professional relationships. However, for most of us, securing the green light from our supervisors is necessary. Persuading your manager to approve your conference attendance is about effectively conveying how the event will enhance your job performance, further your organization’s goals, and address specific challenges. Given the significant expenses associated with attending conferences, your manager will naturally expect you to present a compelling rationale. Use this blog to present your case!
