GHG Certification: EP®(GHG) Open House Q&A

July 9 @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am

FREE

Interest in GHG accounting certification and professional development continues to grow as more professionals seek to build credible careers in climate action. Following the launch of the EP®(GHG) certification, ECO Canada and GHGMI are continuing the conversation with a dedicated Open House Q&A designed for prospective applicants who want to better understand eligibility, requirements, and the application process.

In March 2026, the GHG Management Institute (GHGMI) and ECO Foundation launched the Environmental Professional in Greenhouse Gas — EP®(GHG) certification, a new credential designed to formalize expertise in greenhouse gas accounting, reporting, and verification. Since then, we’ve seen strong interest in both the EP®(GHG) and EPt(GHG) pathways. This webinar is intended for individuals who are already somewhat familiar with the designation requirements — either through independent review or by attending one of our previous introductory information sessions — and are now looking for deeper clarification through an interactive Q&A format.

If you are brand new to the designation, we encourage you to first review one of our introductory webinars prior to attending:

EP®(GHG) Open House Q&A — Application Process, Eligibility & Next Steps

This interactive session is designed to help prospective applicants move forward with confidence. Whether you are determining your eligibility, preparing your documentation, or working through your application, this webinar will provide practical guidance and direct access to certification experts.

During the session, participants will:

  • Ask questions about the EP®(GHG) and EPt(GHG) pathways
  • Gain clarity on eligibility requirements, competencies, and supporting documentation
  • Learn more about the application and review process
  • Hear insights from a peer who has completed the certification journey
  • Understand common application challenges and how to avoid them
  • Explore how certification supports professional growth in GHG accounting and climate-related careers

Speakers:

Michael Gillenwater

Michael Gillenwater co-founded the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute and serves as its Dean and Executive Director. Dr. Gillenwater is a leading expert on climate change and renewable energy, with a specific focus on greenhouse gas (GHG) measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) issues. Hendrik Louw

Hendrik Louw is a climate change professional with a strong industrial background, having spent much of his career working at operational facilities. He began his career as a chemical engineer in the metals and mining industry. His passion for the environment led him to complete an M.Sc. in Environmental Management and Analysis, after which he has dedicated the past 26 years to environmental management.

Following retrenchments in the paper industry, he established himself as an independent sustainability and climate change consultant, a role he has continued ever since. His involvement in projects such as the development of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol for Aluminium and the ISO 19870 series (Hydrogen technologies — Methodology for determining the GHG emissions associated with the hydrogen supply chain) has provided him with extensive experience in the development and application of technical standards. He was responsible for updating the South African GHG Inventory for the Energy sector (2022) and the Industrial Processes and Product Use (IPPU) sector (2024). He has also worked extensively in training companies and consultants on GHG accounting, reporting and verification. His experience working with government has given him a deep appreciation of the broader climate change landscape and the diverse range of stakeholders involved in addressing climate-related challenges.

Currently, he works as a climate change specialist in collaboration with several consultancies. His areas of expertise include carbon foot printing, carbon strategy development, carbon management and reporting, validation and verification, and climate-related financial disclosures in accordance with IFRS S2. Hendrik also has a Diploma in Carbon Management from the GHG Management Institute.
